Fall Sports and the Power of Teamwork
As the leaves begin to change and fall sports take center stage, it’s a great time to think about what athletics can teach us about working together. Whether it’s football, soccer, volleyball, cross country, or another favorite fall sport, success rarely comes down to one person. It takes a team.
Great teams are built on trust, communication, and a shared goal—the same qualities that help our teams succeed every day.
Everyone Has a Role
On a sports team, every player brings something different to the game. Some may lead from the front, while others provide support behind the scenes. The strongest teams recognize that every role matters.
The same is true at work. Our individual skills and responsibilities may look different, but each contribution helps move the organization forward. When everyone understands how their role connects to the bigger picture, we become stronger together.
Communication Makes the Difference
A successful team communicates constantly. Players call out plays, share information, encourage one another, and adjust when things don’t go according to plan.
In the workplace, clear communication is just as important. Asking questions, sharing ideas, providing feedback, and keeping teammates informed can prevent small challenges from becoming big ones—and help everyone stay focused on the goal.
Celebrate the Wins—and Learn From the Losses
No team wins every game. What matters is how they respond. Teams celebrate their victories, learn from mistakes, and come back ready to improve.
We can take the same approach at work. Every accomplishment is worth recognizing, and every challenge provides an opportunity to learn. When we support one another through both, we create a culture where people feel encouraged to keep growing.

This is Tachi, a Doberman who faced a formidable enemy early on: a cancerous tumor developed on his muzzle, causing him to lose some of his upper teeth and the vision in his left eye. Yet, nothing stops him from playing tug-of-war with his little sister or getting the “zoomies” whenever he sees his family arrive. Despite his menacing appearance, he has proven to be a dog full of love, always ready to share affection with his loved ones—truly living up to the nickname “Velcro dogs” often given to the breed. To this day, he continues to enjoy playtime and going for walks with his owners.
