Summer Safety Tips

Summer is the perfect time to enjoy longer days, outdoor activities, and well-deserved vacations. While the season offers plenty of opportunities to relax and recharge, it’s also important to take steps to protect your health and safety both at work and at home.

Beat the Heat

High temperatures can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Stay safe by:

  • Drinking water regularly, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
  • Take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas when working outdoors.
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing whenever possible.
  • Watch for symptoms of heat-related illness, including dizziness, headache, nausea, excessive sweating, or confusion. If you or a coworker experiences these symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.

Practice Sun Safety

Spending time outdoors increases your exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays.

  • Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and reapply every two hours or after swimming or sweating.
  • Wear sunglasses that block UV rays and a wide-brimmed hat for added protection.
  • Try to schedule outdoor activities during the cooler parts of the day whenever possible.

Stay Hydrated

Proper hydration helps maintain energy, focus, and overall health.

  • Keep a reusable water bottle nearby throughout the day.
  • Increase your water intake during hot weather or physical activity.
  • Limit sugary drinks and excessive caffeine, which can contribute to dehydration.

Travel Smart

Whether you’re heading out on vacation or taking a weekend road trip:

  • Check your vehicle’s tires, fluids, and battery before traveling.
  • Buckle up every trip and avoid distracted driving.
  • Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle with water, a flashlight, a first-aid kit, and basic supplies.
  • Allow extra travel time during busy holiday weekends.

Water Safety

If you’re spending time at the pool, lake, or beach:

  • Never leave children unattended near water.
  • Wear a properly fitted life jacket when boating or participating in water sports.
  • Swim only in designated areas and follow posted safety guidelines.

Make Wellness a Priority

Summer is also a great reminder to take care of yourself.

  • Get enough sleep to help your body recover and stay energized.
  • Take breaks throughout the workday to stretch and move around.
  • Use your vacation time to rest, recharge, and spend time with family and friends.
  • Support your coworkers by checking in and promoting a safe, healthy workplace for everyone.

By making a few simple safety habits part of your daily routine, you can enjoy everything summer has to offer while protecting yourself, your family, and your coworkers. Have a safe, healthy, and enjoyable summer!

We Love Our Pets!

Pets of the Month

We would love to see your pet, send in a picture and description to sqnewsletter@stratospherequality.com

Cloudy, Flour, & Charlie

We’ve got three cats – all girls.  Technically, they’re my kids’ cats.  Legally and financially, they’re mine.  Their survival is also dependent on me (my kids and the cats).  Flour and Charlie are 4 years old, and we got them when they were about 3 months old. Cloudy is 8 years old, and we got her when she was 2 during COVID.

Truly, though, they are well-loved and bring us much joy.
