Fifth Edition - December 2022

News & Reminders from the Support Center

The end of the year is just around the corner, and with that comes helpful reminders for employees regarding benefits, payroll, and other employee programs.

Employee Information

Employees are responsible for verifying and maintaining their personal information on file with SQ, including mailing addresses.  This is essential to ensure tax documents, insurance cards, pay cards, and other related correspondence gets to the right place without delay.

Please ensure that we have your current (and full) address on file, which can be verified using a current pay statement or via ADP Self-Service.  Any changes or updates to your address can be submitted via ADP Self-Service.  Additional updates or changes to your information, including tax withholdings, direct deposit, and emergency contacts, can also be completed via self-service.

Insurance ID Cards (US Only)

Dental and Vision

Please be advised that US employees enrolled in dental and/or vision coverage for 2023 will receive new insurance ID cards from the new carrier, Guardian.  ID cards are targeted to arrive before January 1, 2023.  In the event your card does not arrive, Guardian will supply non-personalized cards that may be presented to your dental or vision provider to verify coverage.  Additional updates on ID card delivery will be sent out via Corporate Communications toward the end of the month.

Flexible Spending Accounts

If you are enrolled in a flexible spending account (FSA) in 2022, do not throw away your FSA debit card, even if you’ve used all the funds in your account.  These cards are valid for three (3) years and will be reloaded with 2023 funds (if elected) for use beginning January 1, 2023.  Our flexible spending administrator, PBA, automatically sends out new cards approximately 30 days before the card’s expiration date.  If your card is set to expire by year-end, keep a look out for your new card to arrive.  If you have misplaced your FSA debit card, you may request a new one by contacting PBA at FSA@pbaclaims.com.

Remember that flexible spending plans are “use it or lose it”.  This means that FSA funds can only be used to pay for eligible expenses incurred in 2022.  Unused funds as of December 31, 2022, will not roll to next year; they are forfeited back to the plan.  If you have 2022 FSA-eligible expenses that were paid for out-of-pocket, you have until March 31, 2023, to submit a claim for reimbursement.

Shutdown Savings

The enrollment/change period for one of our most popular employee programs, Shutdown Savings (SDS), is going on now.  If you’re unfamiliar, Shutdown Savings allows employees to defer wages from each paycheck to be held in a ‘shutdown account’ that will be paid out during scheduled shutdown times in July or December.

  • Shut Down Savings is available to ALL employees in both the US and Canada.
  • You tell us how much you want to save each pay.  Elected amounts must be whole dollar increments of $5…i.e. $10, $25, $40, etc.
  • Participants may change their election amount once per year.  The change period begins each December and takes effect in January.
  • Savings payouts are made twice annually; in July and December.
  • Employees may discontinue participation at any time. However, payouts are only made in July and December or when an employee leaves the company.
  • Visit the Shutdown Savings tile on the SQ Employee Dashboard to enroll or make contribution changes online.

Happy Holidays from us to you!

Employee Spotlight: Markel Alexander-Bradford

December’s employee spotlight is Markel Alexander-Bradford, Project Manager at the Mazda Toyota facility in Huntsville, Alabama.

Markel started with Stratosphere Quality in 2019 as a Project Supervisor in Mississippi. Markel was promoted to Project Manager in 2021 to Support MTMUS in Huntsville.

Markel performs his best in a positive, family-based work environment and makes it his personal mission to foster this culture in every location he works. Understanding that sometimes we spend more time with our work family than we do at home, it’s his mindset to build that strong family team at work. Markel believes this helps employees engage in their team and makes everyone feel important, providing an important feeling of belonging.

Before Markel was hired at SQ, he was a Direct Support Professional providing care for adults and children with development disabilities. He had the opportunity to work with a broad range of individuals and found joy in providing them support in their daily lives. He said his clients were like part of his family, and it was hard to leave after developing those relationships. He saw great growth there and still connects with some of those clients today.

Markel was introduced to Stratosphere in 2017 by Roosevelt Bradford, who told him it was a great company to work for. This was two years prior to his start here. At that time, Markel opted for another opportunity to gain some different experiences.

What is it about SQ that keeps Markel here and continuing to grow with the company?

Markel said he likes this ‘outside-the-box’ company that meets challenges head on and finds creative ways to overcome them while providing support to our customers. He’s driven by the challenge and enjoys working together with his team to find the best outcome for our customers and teams. Markel believes we separate ourselves from our competition by the premium quality service we provide and the great minds that come together to source solutions.

What’s your best advice to any new QI starting at SQ?

Markel’s advice to new incoming QI’s is to learn all they can.

‘Ask questions frequently and make recommendations for improvements. There’s a plethora of knowledge available and you’ll be working for a company that loves growth from within, so please take advantage of the resources provided to you.’

If Markel could change a world problem it would be to rid the world of homelessness. He said there are hundreds of resources available to everyone in this situation. He believes all people should have a place to shelter and lay their heads.

Markel works hard to encourage a family-like feel in his team. A recent President’s Club Award Winner, we appreciate Markel’s enthusiasm in every aspect of his work. Thank you, Markel, for your service!
