Employee Spotlight: Marcia Ruderman

This month, we’re excited to shine the spotlight on Marcia Ruderman – a valued member of our Payroll team whose journey with SQ is full of heart, dedication, and a love for learning.

Meet Marcia

Originally from the Detroit area, Marcia and her husband Zack have lived in several cities across the U.S.—Boston, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, and now Kansas City. They have two children: Gabi, who lives in Atlanta and is pursuing a career in HR, and Max, a senior at Purdue studying data analytics. The family also includes their beloved grand-pup, Fable.

Outside of work, Marcia enjoys daily walks (often while chatting with her sister), yoga, and Pilates. She and Zack love exploring Kansas City’s BBQ scene and traveling—whether it’s to visit family or discover new countries.

Creating a Positive Work Environment

Throughout her career, Marcia has fostered a collaborative and supportive work environment. She thrives in office settings where ideas are shared freely and is always ready to lend a hand. “Whenever I have downtime, I ask my co-workers if they need help,” she says. “I enjoy a challenge and learning something new.”

Her Journey to SQ

Before joining SQ, Marcia spent 24 tax seasons as a tax assistant at an accounting firm in Minneapolis. When her children became more independent, she sought a role that would connect her with new people and answered an ad for a part-time HR Assistant/Front Desk Receptionist at the Support Center. That role opened the door to a deeper understanding of the company and eventually led to a position in Payroll, where she found her perfect fit.

After relocating to Kansas City in 2024, she initially resigned from SQ to find an in-office role. But after just three months, she missed the team and was thrilled to return in a remote capacity. “I’m fortunate to have been able to come back,” she shares. “I love sending Service Award emails and celebrating employees’ milestones.”

Why She Stays

For Marcia, it’s all about the people. “I love who I work with in the Payroll Department and everyone I was with at the Support Center. I miss seeing them every day,” she says. She also appreciates the opportunities to grow and take on new projects.

Words of Wisdom

Her advice to new hires? “Work hard, ask questions, and always offer to help others when you have the time. Opportunities for advancement are available if you want them and work for them.”
